The Directive 2003/89/EC regarding Food Allergen Labelling, came into effect on the 25th November 2005.
This regulation requires that all pre-packed foods sold in the European Union must clearly indicate on the label if they contain any of the 12 listed allergenic foods as an ingredient.
There has been an overuse of precautionary labelling statements such as “may contain”. This overuse (and sometimes excused as a legal statement) has reduced the impact of the effect of these warnings and become an annoyance to people suffering from Food Allergies and their familes who are faced with dilemmas when shopping for suitable foods.
Many food processors and ingredient suppliers have now restricted the use of these statements and have implemented Food Allergen testing Programs to ensure their ingredients, finished product and equipment are free of unintended Food Allergens.
ELISA SYSTEMS has the most extensive range of Food Allergen test kits for commercial applications. Our test kits are used worldwide by companies to check incoming materials, swabs of equipment after clean-down and on finished product to prevent unintended inclusion of Food Allergens.
